Description

The fulminate game Reus makes you control very big giants: With their help you can change the blue planet according to your wishes. The giants are so powerful that you can create whole mountains, oceans and forests without any efforts. But that's just the beginning of Reus! You can enrich your freshly designed world with a number of plants, minerals and animals. There is only one thing that you can not control in Reus: People! You can only shape the world they live in but you can't influence their free will including their vices. It is entirely up to you: Give the people what they need and they will be happy. Give them too much and greed will disintegrate their minds! Reus understands it like no other game to generate a highly complex system that provides endless options for action. You and your giant have endless possibilities! The only question is: Can you help humanity to reach new stages of development?

Fauna and flora

But until that happens, first of all you have to create the basis for all life. The barren desert planet-on which Reus sends you at the very beginning-does consist of 100 percent stone, sand and gravel. That is surely not a good prerequisite for the emergence of life! Water is lacking, that's for sure! Thus you take over control over the giant squid. This giant can conjure huge oceans out of nothing. The created water now forms the basis for the further evolution of your planet. At the borders of the sea you may cultivate wonderful woods and meadows, don't you think? For this purpose you will use the mighty tree giant that has a lot of similarities to the Ents from Lord of the Rings. Anyway: With very few troubles this giant cultivates green areas that will contain a rich fauna and flora in the future...

People and settlements

Of course, it is again your giant that provides the forests with edible berries, fruits and plants. And suddenly human life will appear on your planet. Now that you have created a food source, the first humans can cover the land with their settlements. But the settlers will not be satisfied with a vegetarian lifestyle in the long run. Thus your squid come back into play. This giant will bring certain animals into your new world that will serve the humans as livestock. But of course, a world does not only consist of water, forests and animals! By using the help of another giant you may build up huge mountain ranges and large desert areas. Once you have installed a fauna and flora in the deserts, the first settlers will also arrive there. Human history teaches us that people will settle anywhere where their basic needs can be satisfied...

Moderation vs. Greed

The exciting thing about Reus is the following: The crucial point of the game lies in the extent and moderation in which you supply your settlers. People strive for technical innovation, more prosperity and cultural achievements. But for these purposes they will need more resources and precious minerals. Those may come into the world by the hands of your giants as well. The problem or the appeal of this matter is this: You have no influence on the free will of the people! If you supply them with too many minerals, resources, food, etc., then you awake bad greed in their hearts. This will lead to violent conflicts within the settlements and your entire project will be threatened to sink into chaos. But if you provide them with goods too moderately, then you may restrain the inhabitants of your planet of reaching important developmental stages. As mentioned above: As far as Reus is concerned, the giant is the measuring stick of all things!
