Hello

I am running Napoleon Total War in a different folder than my steam folder (So I can play the game offline without steam interfering, as I am sick and tired of steam ruling whether I want to play a game or not, I never play online anyways.) But it seems without the support of the steam folder, MegaTrainer eXperience (with 2008 copyright logo, thus I assume this is the 2008 Megatrainer, not the 2009 version.) cannot find the path of the game (As it will not start the game)

I was wondering if (And yes I have tried every .txt config file in megatrainer folder) if there is a txt file to modify game.exe path and where it might be found.

I would be sincerely glad for your help.

Sincerely Yours

Hello

I installed retail version with Phoenix Installer, so I could run it on a harddrive (200 gb Maxtor) with more space (As my current 120 gb W7 partition on a different 200gb Maxtor is running out of space fast) and on top of that, run it offline without steam (Using patched .exe of course  Unschuldig )

Edit: Thx for making the awesome trainer btw, me and a friend can confirm that it works excellent on latest Empire Total War version w/Darth Mod :) (With the exception of Unlimited Movement, which induces CTD in regards to ships, but that is a small price to pay for such an enhanced and excellent game!)

Anywho, the problem still stands?

Sincerely Yours

Hmm I don`t know as the problem here seems to be (Allthough I cannot be certain of this either) that the trainer cannot find the path to the .exe, for example, using the sicheats Napoleon Total War 1.0.0.0 +8 trainer, it allows me to browse for the gamepath (However, due to it being a 1.0.0.0 build, of course it cannot verify the MDS checksum)

That is why I was wondering if there was a config file to assign different game path I:\Program Files(x86)\Napoleon Total War\  (Yes I have 7 partitions, 6 harddrives, I have become crazy for space up to this point, hopeless isnt it!  LOL )

Sincerely Yours

the trainer is reading the game path from windows-registry, so if you've installed the original game successfully, the trainer can start it no matter where you've installed it

The game runs perfectly, thus I believe the game is successfully installed, the game wont launch when I click start in the trainer.
I installed the game with steam just to make sure and the problem persists.
No intensions of criticizing the trainers functionality of course, as it rather seems you are reluctant to help due to not being sure whether I own the game, perhaps you require proof of me owning the game?
I do not have a photo camera, but would a completely non edited/modified screenshot with the game in my steam library with this topic in the backround serve satisfactory? Or we add eachother on MSN, I turn on remote help so you can browse to the game in my steam library whilst I am logged on to steam?

Sincerely Yours

ok, now I've read all you posts again and better understand your problem...

for Napoleon as well as Empire there's no official version without steam... the trainer is looking for the steam-installationpath and try to load the game from there... if it's not there, you haven't installed it the right way (as you've written with some installer, I don't know - but however)... there's no way to get the start-button working this case, but the trainer can also work for games if they aren't started from the trainer, but the trainer has been activated with the start-button... but as you've written, you also use a different game-exe to run it without steam and that's a problem of course... the trainer needs a special memory-structure of the game to modify the right things and if you use another exe file, the structure is mostly different (for official patches in approx 99%, for cracks and other not official stuff approx 75%)... for this reason the trainer shouldn't work if you don't use the original one

I don't care if you've the original game and like to verify it or not, but in different countries (e.g. Germany) it's not allowed to use cracks or other stuff by-passing copyprotections no matter if you own the original game or not... the trainer was made with and for the original version and is working with this one, if you like to use the trainer, all you need to do, is to install the game with steam and then use our trainer (steam will automatically update your game, so you should use the latest 1.3 of Napoleon in trainer after it)

In other words you are saying:

A: Because I am using cracked exe, you wont give me a hint of where I can edit the path of which the trainer loads the game .exe, because using cracks is forbidden in Germany.

B: And even if I did, you claim it does not work.

But (If I may mention without adding offense of course, as I highly respect Megadev for the great trainer)

A: Even if your government knew about this thread, they still cant do anything, as the only thing you are doing is telling me how to get the trainer launch my game from a different path, whether they knew I have cracked exe or not is not relevant.
And in Norway, using cracked exe or installing games/programs with different applications than what came with the DVD/CD (In this case, Microsoft Installer) Is perfectly legal. As long as I buy the game (Which I have)
Now that we have that part covered, Please help me? :)

B: You said yourself (Might I humbly add) that you have not tried either, that you did not know about the installer, etc, but, Your checksum tool says my cracked Napoleon Total War 1.3.0 (Build 1680.37026) executable is 100% compatible with your trainer? Wouldnt you say it is worth a shot? :)

Even if I wanted to install N:TW on my C: Drive, I can`t, because I have too little disk space (E:TW+mods=a lot of GB)

I don't know rights in Norway but I know about german sites getting trouble simply for the reason of little pro/contra discussions about cracks! we don't like such stuff and also don't like to get unnecessary trouble, so we don't want discussions for not original versions here

A: you cannot edit the game-path for steam-games, because the trainer always reads the Steam-Installationpath and add the needed to folders for the game to this paths, you cannot edit this, because it's part of the trainer and it's not possible to modify registry in a good way to solve this problem... for other games, you can add or edit the Game-Installationpath in registry, but not for Steam games...

B: yes, because a crack normally modify the exe file and thus the memory-structure of the game is different, but the trainer needs the original memory-structure to modify the right locations...
B: as I've written I don't know about the installer or how to get a steam-game to work without steam, but maybe it's not necessary to modify the exe for such games but a dll or something else resp. running the game with a different loader, because steam is something like a loading software and you already have a no-CD/DVD for steam games... so it's maybe possible, your exe-file has the same MD5-checksum than the original one I've used for the trainer and MegaChecksum

Sorry for insanely late reply, my computer power supply died and I got a new one, but forgot all about this.

I just want to say I don`t blame you nor any personel of megadev for how the laws long arm (So to speak) can react, you are absolutely right, I have now installed the game normally (Via steam) And am using the trainer normally, rather than causing trouble in any way.

Again, thanks for making such a great trainer!
