Hi and hello! First time posting here on MegaDev. First off, let me say I absolutely love this trainer, and have had much success and enjoyment in using it in the past.

However, with Mass Effect 3 coming soon, I have been in the mood for some Mass Effect 2 again, this time with a trainer. The trainer however, will not work with the game. When I hit start, it says "Error starting game." I have tried this with both the disc version of the Collectors Edition, but after reading that it may have different reg files as the original, I purchased the regular version on Steam. Still having the same issues, however.

If anyone knows anything that might be helpful, I would greatly appreciate it!

Sorry but the trainer doesn't work with the Steam-Version of the game because of the different reg files.  Traurig Only the Retail-Version should work.

The Trainer should work also with the Steam version.
Try the following.
Sart the game using Steam then switch back to desktop and start the trainer.
Now select Mass Effect 2 and the matching version and click on the start button at the top of the trainer window.
Now the cheats should work.
If not then please provide us the md5 checksum of your masseffect2.exe file.

Ok, sorry.

I said, because CCJ39 once said, that games which doesn't use Steam (and ME2 doesn't) aren't compatible if the trainer is made with the Retail-Version.

Thank you for your reply. I started the game via steam, got all that ready, alt-tab'ed out to the desktop, and tried using the trainer, but the same error message appeared, "Error Starting Game."

After using CheckSum, here are the results...

MassEffect2.exe - 16f214ce81ba228347bce7b93fb0f37a
MassEffect2Launcher.exe - e4ea94231e17279c69b415813103e629

I see that this doesn't match up with what is on file here, but that doesn't make sense, since Steam automatically (and has) updated the game to the latest patch, 1.02.

the problem is the different copy-protection between a dvd version and a steam version in most cases... thus the exe files are mostly different which is shown by the different checksum and for this reason mostly also the memory structure is different and so the trainer is not compatible in these cases... however from time to time the memory structure is also compatible, but it depends on the game

for your situation, it's fine when you start the game yourself from steam and it's correct that you press the start-button in the trainer... it's also normal that you get this error-message then, but you can try after it if the cheats are working (even if you get this error, the trainer will be activated to listen for cheat hotkeys in this case)
